Bookmarking or social bookmarking has become necessary for getting web pages indexed and to get better traffic. I follow the simple routine of making my notes for my main blog pages and make some extra notes. These extra notes help me with bookmarking sites.
I have realized that bookmarking sites have lot of changes. Technorati used to have PR 9 now it is PR 3. I like it so I will take that but objectively it hurts. Digg has started “no follow”. I accordingly, adjusted to pick a few new bookmarking sites. I do not see any reason of micro blogging like Twitter because I need more than 140 characters to communicate.
The best course is to pick a few ( 3 or 4) from the top sites like:
- facebook.com,
- myspace.com
- twitter.com
- digg .com
- stumbleupon.com
- squidoo.com
- reddit.com
- technorati.com
Then I pick a few newer sites with the hope that they will be good for a couple of years, at least. My choice is:
Of late I have found that the newer sites work better. Perhaps, the need for more and more ad revenue is making top sites too much commercial.
I have test run
which allowed me to create several unique accounts, several unique notes for nearly 100 social bookmarking sites. The results were actually better than manual submissions . It saved me time and I got several back links. This is a white hat product but software that helps you manage the bookmarking work. A small, one time investment, seems to get justified if you see the time and effort it would spare you to undertake other tasks. To get this software and save time is an option though I would recommend.
